Hypnotherapy is a very effective way of helping people remove ‘blocks’ that have been holding them back from achieving their goals.
A hypnotherapist does not control the client by telling her to do something that she will then get up and do. Instead hypnotherapy re-educates our unconscious mind. An old negative response to something is replaced by asking you to imagine the problem whilst superimposing a positive image onto it. Perhaps you are preparing a presentation at work and you are terrified of standing up in front of people you are hoping to impress or maybe you don’t actually know them. You will have learnt how to be terrified way back in your past – school may-be ? By running the process through in your mind in a positive way, whilst in hypnosis, your unconscious mind will begin to replace the fear with confidence.
At the start of a hypnotherapy session we will discuss the problem you bring in order to decide upon the most appropriate mode of treatment. I will then guide you through relaxation in order to help you focus more deeply on the issue. You will be completely aware of what is happening and you can stop at any stage. It is a daydream-like state that all of my clients enjoy and find extremely calming whilst feeling in control throughout. Perhaps it is a little like becoming absorbed in a book, film or music where your attention narrows and outside distractions fade into the background and this helps us to create a positive change. You cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis and it is not ‘mind control’ and you cannot be made to do something against your wishes.
The aim of hypnotherapy is to help you focus in a way that will make it easier to explore thoughts, feelings, patterns or goals and support change in a safe and confidential setting.
To help normalise hypnosis as something familiar rather than mysterious …… it is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation where you stay aware and are in control. I guide the process but you are the one creating the experience.
At the end of the session you will open your eyes feeling relaxed and re-energised and remember everything that has happened.
Clinical Hypnosis should not be confused with stage hypnosis, which is a very different subject and from time to time gives hypnotherapy a bad press. At no time do any of my clients find themselves making fools of themselves - they are always in control and remember everything!
Clinical Hypnotherapy is an extremely valuable therapy recognised by the medical profession for the way it works either alone or alongside traditional medicine hence the reason for my many GP referrals.
